Well, That Didn't Take Long

I was kind of joking about the having backups for my backup horses....

Guess I shouldn't joke about those things! Damn it!!

Jet got loose from me the other evening and was racing around the yard like an idiot...which normally isn't a big deal. The horses know their way around this yard and usually if I just let Jet calm down, I can walk right up to him and he's fine.

Unfortunately, it was a little dusky out and when he came racing around the side of the house, he scared Shooter, who was in his own pen. Shooter spooked into the corner panel, right where the panel meets the barn, with such force that the steel post the panel is attached to gave away and Shooter and the panel just flipped over in a heap.

Shooter jumped up and took off. One of his legs was through the panel, but luckily it wasn't stuck. He took quite a hit to the side of his head and got some ugly scrapes. I counted my lucky stars that was the worst of it. But I guess it wasn't. There are no scrapes or marks on Shooter's leg, but two days after taking that tumble, he has some puffiness in that leg. He's not lame, but the puffiness is along the tendon and it's sore to the touch, sooo....

Jet's stupidity put him on the front line to go back to work. Pretty sure that wasn't in his game plan! Well, having him wreck my English horse, especially when I am on a very finite time line, really wasn't in mine. Guess we'll see if I can get Jet ready to take Shooter's place in the English classes in time?!

Dang horses!!!
