An Answer To The Question

The question of why I don't just go buy a finished horse and hit the road rodeoing was posed...

The answer to that question is very simple...

I have no desire to do so!

I could...And MH and I have had this discussion.

I could give a litany of reasons for why I am continuing on the path that I am on, but the only important reason is...

I am doing what makes me the happiest and gives me the most sense of satisfaction.

That's all that really matters. :-)

Smart beyond your years, and a perfect reason!

There is something unique and special about a horse that you've brought up and trained yourself. From following your blog, you don't strike me as someone who is only interested in the end result, but rather someone who is enjoying the process and progress of their ponies.

Yes, it might be quicker to buy a made horse, but where would the fun be in that.

Yup it isn't all about the winning, it's the journey to get there.

Absolutely! The joy is in the journey - not the destination...

Sure we could all buy the best horse we can afford. Many of us have as far as breeding or that 'it' factor goes. But there is a lot to be said about making your way to the top and buying your way there.

Someone may be fortunate enough to afford the horse, but it doesn't mean they know how to ride them. How many times have we seen a winning horse end up in someone else's barn and it all unravels from there... ?

If anything it seems like you take the underdogs and make something special out of them. There's a lot to be said for that.

I know quite a few people that have bought a finished horse thinking it was the ticket to winning - either at whatever level they were at or bumping up to the next level - only to be sorely disappointed.
NOT everyone rides the same and when a horse is finished it can be a lot more work to get your styles to mesh than is worth it.
Then again, not everyone CAN train or "make" a horse either ;)
