Gunner

It never ceases to amaze me when I look at the pictures of time passing at just how much Little Guns has changed.

From this, the day he was born last October...

To how he looks today...

He reminds me of someone, in a lot of ways...but particularly the 'long as a bus' phase he is in right now...This was Shooter at about the same age...
(Way back when...LOL)

He has quite the stifle on him...
He is still sickle hocked, but continues to straighten out with each succeeding trim. Personally, I think the colt was born with really big joints (hocks and knees) and just needs to grow into them.

If my line of thinking is correct, he is going to be one big horse. Probably bigger than Shooter. Gahhh-I am getting too old to raise such big horses.
Just like Shooter and Beretta before him, he continues to alternate standing with one leg out to the side. If he is standing straight up on one front leg, the other is rolled out. I suppose to people looking at them from an 'outsider's' perspective they look like they are crooked legged. Since I've already gone through looking at it with the other two, I think it is kind of a cute genetic quirk they all must have inherited from their sire's side (as none of the dam's are related).
Of course, it wouldn't be so cute if the other two had not grown out of it-LOL.

That's cute when you know it's just a phase. One of my stallions uniformly has foals that have necks like a Belgian at nine months. It lasts 6 or 8 weeks, then they grow a nice neck, but it does worry folks who aren't familiar with his foals. My advice to them is "just don't look at it for 2 months; it will grow out" but at first they find that hard to believe. The hand-holding we do!

Funny how much they can grow into ,or out of. Dandys had some pretty wonky laegs and he is growing up nice and straight. lots of my foals start out a little over at the knee, but by about 1 1/2 months all better

What did he string test to? All of my horses have been dead on when string tested.

You raise the prettiest babies (megan too!).

Yep, he is going to be handsome! And, like others have said, homely phases are fine when they are just that: phases. Not that he is homely, but you know what I mean...

Kids, horses, dogs...they all go through that "stage." You know, long arms, braces, pimples...lol!!!

Gosh it always amazes me how 'built' those QH colts get so quickly. My little Arab looks scrawny by comparison. He looks great!

Stephanie-I have never string tested a horse, although I know what it is. I guess because we have been raising these bloodlines for so long now, I just assume the geldings are going to get big and the mares are going to be 'more my size'. LOL

Way back when, that worked out pretty good. My brother liked big geldings and I prefered to ride the smaller mares. Huh-Now I'm stuck with all of the geldings and I missed out on riding some awefully nice mares.

Beretta isn't going to get skipped over though. I cannot wait til she grows up.
