It Warmed Up

Not that you could tell that by how bundled up I am...

Once I start wearing my coveralls...they usually stay on til spring. My "work" clothes are ugly as sin, but they are warm and it doesn't matter what I get on them.

The brothers...

It just doesn't seem to matter what angle I photograph Shooter, he is just a dark blob this time of year.

Of course Megan would be in the middle of a bunch of horses...

Frosty usually stands back. But he couldn't stand it anymore and had to come investigate too...

Frosty is a bit of a timid horse anyway, but Moon is a bully and rules with an iron fist. Everyone else stays out of his way. Shooter is giving Moon fits though. He is his mother's son just as much as Moon is and wants to be just as dominant as his big brother. Another couple of years and I think Moon will have met his match.

Meg and I also got this accomplished this morning...

It went very smoothly and quietly with Shooter in the stall with her. He is very kind to his little sister and nuzzles her all over. Megan simply held Shooter and pushed his hip over to create a wall behind Beretta and I slid under his neck and slipped the halter on with absolutely no fuss. After that, Meg took Shooter out of the stall and I spent a little time moving Miss Beretta around the stall and asking her too look at me with the leadrope. Hopefully very soon, pictures will show a much more relaxed baby girl, cause so far they all show her looking fairly uncomfortable and crammed into a corner.

I bought some totally awesome but ridiculously ugly winter barnwear this year... inluding a fur lined cap with the ear flaps! lol
Like "fat is a good colour on any horse" "warm is a good look on any gal" is my motto in this weather.
(windchill warnings here from yesterday til early next week, right now it says -30C and the windchill makes it -45C)

It was 23 here yesterday. A heatwave! :) As long as I have coveralls and something on my head and ears, I can make it to the barn. When the wind was so bad earlier this week, my cheeks really stung.

Yeah, bay horses in snow are hard to shoot. One trick I learned was to use the flash. It helps a little.

That looks cold. I'm hoping for snow. People think I'm crazy, but we're only supposed to get a bit, then it's going to warm up and rain. I just want to enjoy it's beauty for one day! ;)

I am sick to death of wearing my glasses. I have had to leave my contacts out for the last month so they can scan my eyes for lasik surgery. I was hoping to get scheduled in this next week, but it is a minimum of a month wait until they can get an accurate reading, so it looks like I'll be stuck wearing them until after Christmas.

ERK! I'll stop whining about the mud now...

My 'uniform' for this time of year is-
heavy denim jeans, unlined ( it is California after all_)long warm socks, tall rubber boots, a thick blue and ratty turtleneck, covered with a heavy grey or blue sweatshirt with hood, a ball cap with a light mounted under the brim, and a ochre colored rubber rain coat. Pretty- yes?

Cool! I love this method of dealing with babies that haven't been imprinted. I'm filing this away in my mental notes - looks like it's consistently working for you!
