The Rodeo Song

Does anyone remember that song?

"Wellllll, it's forty below and I don't give a f***, got a heater in my truck and I am off to the rodeooooo....

Gee mom, that's fairly inappropriate

Okay, so it's not 40 below...it's only been 20 below the last couple of nights, but OMG! It can warm up already. The ponies haven't exactly been suffering. Besides a good bit of blubber to protect them, I've been putting them in the barn at nights.

This morning Moon and Frosty were feeling pretty spry...

Shooter(gee how did I miss getting pics of him?) made a couple of laps to stretch his legs and then stood by the gate. That horse loves his stall like no other horse I have ever raised.

Still making progress with Miss Beretta...

Don't even need big brother in the stall anymore for her to let me pet her. I don't realize how big she is getting until I see these pics. She's not quite seven months yet. Which reminds me, I better get busy getting those registration papers sent in...hopefully her registered name will end up being...Fastdraw MeA Bug.

It won't be long and I'll have her haltered. I've tried a couple of times, but she is still not having anything to do with letting me get the noseband on. May have to bring big brother back in to facilitate that. This has been a learning experience for me. I honestly haven't handled very many babies of this age that aren't halter-broke. For the past 12 years I have imprinted my foals, so haven't had to deal with this. Everything else we have raised were halter-broke by my brother, who is 6'2" tall and weighs around 200lbs. If he was here, he would just push little miss thang into the corner and slide the halter on her and that would be that.

I wonder if I can convince My Honey to come up and help? Sometimes big, strong men are so helpful to have around. 'Cause my booty-licious little girl isn't getting any smaller!

Heh heh... when I saw your post title those lyrics were going through my head. Did not expect to see them in the post itself! lol

Coupla questions - a bit off topic.
1) If you've been watching the NFR, Mary Berger ran a grey horse a couple nights. Was it just me or is that horse blind in one eye? (Believe it was his left)
2) I don't know any of those girls personally, I cheer for Sears because I think Martha is an awesome horse and LS is the only Canadian in the barrel racing this year. (normally I cheer for Deb Renger) Caught your comment about liking Martha but not the little snot riding her. Any thing in particular that you can share that led you to that opinion? Hope that's not too nosy of me.
(e-mail if you want)

LS is the one who made that comment in Western Horseman about how if you want a winning barrel horse these days, you had better have a lot of money. Which of course just POed me off to no end. It's that kind of attitude that has contributed to some of the problems in the horse market. Too many people bred horses that they "thought" were inherantly valuable, but the only thing that makes a horse valuable is time and training. Most of the girls going and winning out there are eternally grateful that they were lucky enough to end up with the horse(s) they did, that allow them to compete at the level they do. They may or may not have given a lot of money for those horses and that to them is beside the fact. It takes the right horse, hard work and a fair bit of luck and money can't buy the last two.

I hadn't heard anything about Mary's gray horse being blind in one eye. No mention on the barrel horse forum.

Haha that makes three of us. I was thinking of that song. The question is should I put it on my playlist on my blog or not? Hahaha.

re MB's horse: got a pretty good look at him coming down the alley, I think it was the 2nd night she rode him. His left eye looked 'flat' not shiny like a normal eye. It almost looked hollowed out like there was no eye in the socket. Was wondering if it was one of those things that just seems off on TV due to light/shadow/angle/etc.
re: LS - yeah if I had heard that comment it would've made me POd too! Maybe she was misquoted? I do think that to compete on that level you have to have a horse that is worth a lot of money... not that you necessarily PAID a lot. Time & training go a long way, even if you didn't have the mega bucks to buy a 'big horse' to start with.

I have a friend that has helped some Montana girls make a run for the NFR. To me it takes more than one horse plus a good indoor horse. Listening to their schedule it sounded like a good old fashion trailer race with all the money won during the season being spent and the final income from the NFR. Some of the girls had 2 trailers going at once with flying back and forth it's hard work to get there.

Thank goodness when my youngest was on the circuit in NM and Texas she learned it wasn't the life she wanted. (if you can call it a life)

Hey Cdn-I went back and watched Mary Burger's round 4 run on that gray horse...I see what you mean about that eye looking different.

It's always possible. I've seen and heard about quite a number of one-eyed horses that are competitive.

It's been a pretty rough year for most of these girls huh? Lots of tipped barrels and not so smooth looking runs. Yikes.

I was thinking the same thing... my coverage is spotty so there are a couple nights I didn't see. Looked at the times and standings though, gotta be quite a few knocked barrels.
Noticed that Tammy Key switched to Cervi's stud. Before that she had been on her backup horse. Too bad, I love that Roundpen!

What do you think of Sue Smith? She's gotta be pinching herself. Took her 6 yr old to 31 rodeos to season him and ended up making her first ever NFR!

Piss me off, ya f***in jerk, get on my nerves! Well here comes johnny with his" We'll leave it at that! I HATE this cold!

Wooo-hoooo....got up this morning and it was already 20 degrees. Looks like the deep freeze is over. For now.

LOL-It's cracking me up that everyone has left lyrics...now we have the whole song-Heehee

Cdn-Sue Smith used to go stay at my brother's and the gal he lived with at the time. He said she is quite the hand. Last night, they said she shoes her own horses. This has to be a fantastic feeling for her. I really like her little horse.

And then there is Shelley Morgan's gray horse. LOVE that horse. He is running perfect patterns every night.
