My Honey's Little Friends

My Honey has a fondness for these little guys, so has put up feeders all around the house....

It's amazing how loud their wings are when they buzz your head-LOL. We've been told different colors attract different types(colors) of hummers, so I'm betting that as we get the the flower beds put in next spring, there will be multiple types of feeders installed around the yard.

I've only heard that red attracts hummingbirds. Hopefully you'll fill us in on the other colors!

Hummingbirds make for some awesome photography in the way they basically float in place while buzzing their wings LOL!! I hope you do get lots next Spring!!

I fed them one year here, but it gets so hot that the nectar goes bad before they can drink it all, then the feeders get overrun with wasps. No more.

Great pix!

The neat thing about watching hummingbirds is that it does not take very much time to find the dominate bird in the group. Also, the males are so much prettier, we have a male here that has a black head and a dark green body. He is wonderful to look at. You are right, they are very loud when they dive bomb you! hahahaha

How fun! I want to put some feeders up next Spring. I was surprised to see one around our house a month ago. I was standing at the kitchen window, wearing a red shirt, when this hummer paused and hovered inches away from me outside the window, checking me out. Then flew away. Amazing. Great pictures.

Great pics...they are so quick...tough little buggers to photograph:) I love hummingbirds but I cant have any feeders around or my cats will have more for lunch than the birds will! Did you leave your cats behind then? I bet Megan would have wanted them to stay:)

Great shots! How on earth did you manage to catch those? Beautiful!

Getting those shots was pure luck. Usually they just buzz in for a sip or two and then take off, but this one just hung out for quite awhile. I sure didn't think I would get as good of shots of her as I did. I was in the house and just zoomed in through the glass door.

I'm wondering if the person who told us about the different colors attracting different colors knew what she was talking about? From what texasnascarcowgirl said, maybe it's just the different colors between sexes? I don't know too much about hummingbirds. They aren't very common in the area I grew up in in SD.

As for the cats Horse Crazed-I did leave my two cats in SD. Megan says they aren't real thrilled about being alone so much, but she does spend at least a little bit of time with them everyday cause she goes to the house after school and hangs out until grandma comes and gets her. My Honey has two cats here, but the only thing they really seem to do is stare at the hummers through the windows. But that reminds me of a hilarious story I have to tell you guys about My Honey's Bug cat.;)

And they're just so cute! Asiatic and Day lilies (yellows, oranges) as well as bright colored butterfly bushes will also attract them. If you have potted Hybiscus (need to bring in come winter) outside and Althea bushes that also will attract them - they're just high maintainence plants.

I have a pair that sit above my head each afternoon while I read on my break! They squeak until I look up and then they stop!
Nice photos!

Wonderful photography and I appreciate the philosophy of association in a small cute bird and the honey craze. The nature is so beautiful and you have the worthwhile skills to capture that beauty in your cam.
Thanks!
