Megan's High School Rodeo Weekend

This is Saturday's run...

I thought she did a good job considering Rip decided to booger at the barrel covers they used and it took all she had to keep him going around them. Her time reflected his lack of desire to run. It was a very slow 22+ seconds.

Today's run was even worse. Blogger wouldn't load it, so after an hour of trying, I decided it didn't matter anyway. Rip ran a little harder. She took a second and a half off her time, but he was still boogering at those barrels and completely set up on the 3rd barrel and then ducked into it, knocking it over. Megan was pretty mad at herself, but there wasn't anything she could have done differently. Rip just needs hauled more and more runs. He'll come around.

On the way home, we stopped at Runnings and picked her up a bat. Rip is going to get a little "encouragement" on her next run.

I'm glad she got run at least with the crappy weather you all had!! It definitely sucks when you know they can do better! That was my weekend with DD last weekend...I like his tight turns though!! That is what we are working on!

for an "east coast" gal.. who have never even seen "barrel racing" in real life.... I am always impressed with the fact that you gal are out there doing things like this with your horses!!!!! goodness, the voice on the loudspeaker would be enough to give any horse a "jolt"..... I have a feeling that by the end of the season... you all will get the "bugs" worked out... thanks for the video... it was fun to watch.....

Megan sure did look good up there. She has an awesome seat. She'll get Rip to get in there. For their first go, she did pretty darn good. I hope that bat gets Rip going!!

What region do you guys compete in, just out of curiosity?

Have you ever gone to nationals? If you make it this year, I'm going to be there, so we'll have to meet up or something.

My sister was 1st in the cutting since last fall, but dropped to second after the last 2 shows. We still have state finals on the 19th so she can try to get 1st back Either way she's pretty much qualified.

CCH-This is Meg's first year in HS rodeo. We are in the new River region and I only entered her in one regional rodeo. Meg and her horse wouldn't have stood a chance of qualifying for state this year, so I decided to save the money it would have cost to go to the HS rodeos and we will go to as many barrel racings as we can this summer to get them seasoned.
I do think this horse has the ability to be competitive, it's just going to take time.

Good for Megan for completing the run. The first shows are always the hardest, jitters, spooks and all. I look forward to more video of her this summer.

Looks good! I betcha ya in time, they will click and be a force to be reckoned with! Hauling is the best thing to get horses seasoned. I take Willis everywhere, just like Sunday at Savannah's rodeo finals, we had ponys running into us, one horse ran up his rear end. man, you can't buy that kind of training! He took it all in stride!

She might be a little slow but she is a beauty!

Awww dang it! I hope she isn't too hard on herself....although it's not such a bad trait you know. To examine what you've done and want to better yourself, as long as she doesn't let the negative feelings from bad gos influence future rides.

Got my fingers crossed for her next time!

I thought she and Rip looked real good. Lots of work to do, I bet a bat will give some encouragement to Rip to try a bit harder, but at least he knows about those barrel covers now. Those horse eating barrel covers :)

Love it, can't wait to see some more!

Your horse is going to be very nice! Small world, isn't it? Will you be in Ft. Pierre this weekend? You're welcome to come out and ride at our place whenever you want!
