Slammed By Winter's Fist

Yesterday started out as just another day...

Shooter enjoyed a good roll and practiced his future trick training...

Megan had the day off of school and went for a ride, while I went to mom's to reload her feeders and prep for the storm we were being warned was headed our way.

Megan found this rack while on her ride...

And then the wind hit! 40-50MPH gusts!! By the evening the freezing rain hit, then the snow flurries. Shortly after, the electricity went out and was out until 4pm today. There was no school today either.

This morning, we woke up to this...

The wind has not let up. Although we have not yet been hit with the 32 inches of snow that the Black Hills got, everything is shut down. The roads are solid sheets of ice. Actually, everything is a solid sheet of ice; the trees, the fences, the ground.

We struggled against the wind tonight and piled the barn with hay for the ponies. I don't even care if they waste it. They need something to nibble on through out this storm and something to lay on if they want, other than the cold ground.
I guess Winter is upon us. Both Megan and I are dreaming of Arizona. I really don't care for extreme weather-hot or cold. My goal is to become a snowbird as soon as Megan is out of High School!! Chris is all for that too.

Now that chores are done and everyone is tucked in for the night...
The candles and flashlights have been rounded up and we can sit hunker down and wait for this nasty weather to blow on through.

Um,wow. It's still in the 80's here, haven't been able to turn off the a/c yet. I'll have to say that yeah, I'm with ya on the moving south deal. I don't do snow. It's pretty to look at and all but...um, wow. I don't think so, not for this sun worshiper. Stay warm!

Ewwww - nasty weather! The wind and snow are one thing, but throw freezing rain in there and things really get out of hand. The ice just makes everything more dangerous.

Hope some of it melts for you!

I'm with ya on the snowbird thing - it might take me a few more years, but going somewhere warm for even a few weeks would be sooo great!

WOW! omg. I love it when you post pics of the snow. Then I'm grateful to be in AZ.
But I'm ready for a happy medium. I want to move out of the hot valley. Wish I could snowbird like you're planning, that's the way to go.

Weather like this is particularly insulting if it shows up with no warning.

So not cool

It's just now getting here. Bleh. The horses are going to be very glad for their winter woolies, and I'm going to have to dig mine out. Crossing my fingers for no school/work tomorrow, but given the powers-that-be here, I'll be shoveling. Sigh... It's definitely good tea & curl up with a book weather.

I like snow, but not freezing rain or extreme wind and cold.
Sending you warm wishes (from up north in Canada of all places!! lol)

No! I don't want to see that stuff. You can keep that s**w to yourself, please and thank you. :) I think your cat has the right idea though. That's what I always feel like doing s**wy days.

Hopefully, the wind here will die soon, too. We slipped & slid our way to work this morning, but the snow isn't much. It's the ice glaze that's nasty. I can't get out to check the horses until later this afternoon, but no news from the farm is good news, at this point!

Definitely glad we won't be digging our way out just yet! Stay warm out there.

Ew that looks Nasty! It's only the begining of November! We rarely get weather like that here, but then again I guess thats what I get for living in the Vancouver area. They call this area the 'Wet Coast' of BC. it's been raining for days now.... But it certainly has gotten chilly. but not nearly freezing rain and blowing snow chilly. I feel for ya girl!

Oh boy, I feel for you guys! That is not encouraging this early in the season - is it? Or is that the norm for you this time of year?? We have rain, rain and then some more rain - occasionally we get a little added wind for some spice, but nothing like that! Keep warm and bless your heart for throwing those ponies extra grub!!

BRRRRRR!!!! That shure looks cold!!!! I hope you all stayed nice and warm. It was 75 here yesterday. Sure the summers are miserable, but the fall and winters are so nice.

I hope all the ponies stayed warm. They sure do look like they have some nice green hay to eat!
