I'm Shocked

Imagine my surprise when I got home this evening and found all the wonderful comments from you guys. I was on a rant last night and rather expected a deafening silence.

This is what I have been up to the last couple of days...
Yesterday we stripped one side of the roof, laid tar paper and laid out the bundles of shingles in preparation to start shingling today. Luckily, we had Megan and 2 of my friend's girls down below, cleaning up the stripped shingles and nails for us.

Today, not so lucky. My friend's 2 girls had Volleyball practice this morning and Megan was in a coma. Poor baby, she works hard, but don't last more than a day at a time. She's 14 and a tiny little thing...can't expect her to keep up with us.
The crew today was me, my friend and his youngest daughter, who is 13. He shingled, her and I stripped...
And cleaned up...
Thankfully, in the afternoon, another young guy showed up to help us finish stripping. Me and the youngster were pooped!!! Here's a neat tip if you have to have your house re-shingled. Make sure the contractor lays tarps below the area they are working on. Shingles, paper and nails all go in the tarp. And then all of it can be easily moved to a dumpster. No shingle mess on your grass and a couple of swipes with that handy, dandy rolling magnet and Ta-Da, all clean.

Now this is a tool trailer to die for...
My friend's trailer is like a rolling hardware store. Never ceases to amaze me that you can ask him for something and he can tell you exactly where it is in this trailer. Me? I have a hard time keeping track of a hammer-LOL. Tomorrow, we finish and then Meg and I are heading to a horse sale and perhaps the Rosebud Pow-Wow.

Alright, now back to more important things...

I guess I will be pulling out my Arabian judging notes and brushing up on them for 20Meter. I will take a stab at evaluating "The Booster" for her. Although, girlfriend, I can already tell you, from what I have seen of that handsome boy, you don't need me or anyone else to tell you all of his wonderful qualities. Luckily for me, I had to help prepare the 4-H group Megan belonged to in AZ, prepare to judge at The Scottsdale Arabian Show. They didn't get to judge that year, but I sure enjoyed learning all that info.

As far as judging stock horse types...I can tell you, there is a world of difference between judging a class of halter horses and judging riding type horses. But it sounds like you all know that already. A perfect conformation does not make a good riding horse and lousy conformation does not necessarily mean that you won't have the best riding horse there is. It all boils down to the brain and the heart of the horse you are riding.

As for the FUGLY blog...guys it is High School all over again. Remember the Prom Queen that ruled the school and told all her minions what and who was cool? Well, you all have just met the b@#ch who made the Prom Queen cry in Debate class-LOL!!!

I am literally laughing my ass off right now! with respect to your comments on the fugly blog!! Not to jump on your band wagon or anything but you really just hit the nail on the head with the example of a prom queen. I am guilty of it myself and sometimes need a little slap in the face to wake up and smell the cattiness of it all.

Btw, I LOVE mugwamps blog, her stories and the advice that she gives but have noticed that her readers comments have taken on the same type tone....of almost a hero worship type thing. She has become what I call a Guru. People find a trainer to latch on to turn them into prophets, you know?

Great idea with the tarps! I pay the kids $.10 for every nail, bit of miscellaneous metal, glass or pointy object they find, and last summer cost me about $40. That was in addition to the stuff that I pocket every time I walk around. It's amazing how much crap accumulates over the years when people aren't careful. I found a disintegrated foal halter in the lot last week that I know hasn't been lost since I started going out there - 10 years ago. Stuff just keeps creeping up out of the mud.

Roofing is WORK - you have my admiration and you have saved a lot of $$ doing it yourselves.

FUGLY Horse of the Day now: don't let me get started. The author of that blog has worked hard to build up a following and some of her pics are amusing, BUT: what a herd or even cult-like mentality. If she told some of those ladies to jump off a cliff, they would hurry to do so, thinking it must be cool. And she has done some real harm to people who arre struggling to keep an equestrian activity going on small change. Interesting internet phenomenon. Little knowledge, big influence.

Mikey-have you looked in the mirror lately? Now you are hard workin' woman!!

Horse Crazed-I have read Mugwamp's blog a few times and agree with you. She sounds knowledgeable and I like reading it(when I remember to check it out) but she is getting that cult-like following for sure.

Sunny-our ranch is like yours. There is never a day that I walk from the house to the barn that I do not pick up at least one nail. That is why I love that little rolling magnet. I'm always rolling it around-LOL.

FL-Sorry, guess I never thought to say that this is a paying gig. I work for my friend when he needs extra help. Although, when we do get around to re-doing the roof on our ranch house-I have learned a ton and I told the rest of the family...no more shingles-we are going with a metal roof.
I'm with you on the mentality of that blog. It's almost she just throws stuff out there and waits for the sharks. The one thing that particularly pisses me off is when they get busted for being dumbasses, all of the sudden it was all just a big misunderstanding.
