Last Minute Barrel Race

Well, it wasn't really last minute. Megan and I were planning on going to this barrel race but it got so darn hot today-the last thing I felt like doing was loading up and going to a barrel race. Uhhhh-did I just say that out loud? What I meant to say was, I just couldn't wait to load up in 98 degree weather and go to a barrel race.

Thankfully it clouded up and you know, 90 degrees just feels soooo much cooler...so we loaded up and headed out.

For your viewing pleasure-here is Moon and I taking 3rd out of 11 barrel racers...

Congratulations! Looks like a nice smooth run from here.

Can't wait until we see the end of the heat -- of course, that's South Dakota in the summer. Sigh.

Looks like an awesome run. Congrats :-)

Woo Hoo Moon! Nice clean run! Way to go!

I have a barrel race this weekend I 'm going to and it doesn't start exhibitions till 12:30 and then the race at 2 p.m. What could they wait till the hottest part of the day?!?!? Having said that I am not claiming to be a certifiable can chaser! I am going to support a sister church of ours and to have fun! I don't know all the ins and outs of barrels.

Great job! Woot Woot! You go cowgirl!

20M-He is a screamer. Sooo much fun to ride this horse.

Sunny-I know I'm ready for Fall. If it could just stay Fall weather 9 months out of the year-LOL. I'll give spring a month, summer a month and winter a month-just for some variety:)

Welcome Micha-Thanks...we are gaining.

Kris-I think you do just fine in the can chasing;)
I see loads of mistakes in my run. What you can't see is that we almost took out 3rd. Moon's shoulder actually touched the barrel and I had to rip my foot out of the stirrup to not tip it.

BECG-I didn't see it the 1st time I watched it, but when I was looking for it, I saw exactly were it happened! I won't win the 1D, but have a good chance at the 4D! Will see! I love doing all kinds of events on her, keeps them fresh and from burning out! But you know the die hard barrel racers get really p*ssy when a ranch horse comes in there and tears there high dollar blowed up barrel horses apart! And not to mention a cowgirl that really knows nothing about barrels! LOL! They won't talk to me, I certainly would never EVER leave my horse unattended at a barrel race! Them girls are vicious!! Man they should relax I am just there have fun on my horse! LOL! I'll let you know how I do!

Good run! Not bad at all! You make me want to get out there and turn some. Too bad it's 105 and HUMID as HELL here. I'm sporting blisters on my shoulders from sunburns and that horse bite on my ribs is turning beautiful colors... .
But dang I'm jealous!! You and Moon look great!!

K-OMG-I know...those girls are crazy. I have been having fun with this, but pretty soon they are all going to recognize Moon and the gig will be up...Moon is like THEE most laid back, fall asleep, stumble around, non-barrel horse thing ever. I saw a couple of the younger girls, on their high-headed, dancing sideways, spinning like tops horses, snicker at Moon and I as we ambled around waiting for our turn. They weren't snickering when we got done with our run...then everyone was looking at him like...WTH was that all about? It makes me giggle every time I think about it. Momma always said...walk softly and carry a BIG stick-hehehehe

M.i.k.e.y....girl, when you gonna start your blog back up? We miss you and your crazy antics...as in What Horse Bite??

Moon has come a long way since the last time you saw him huh? We was just starting him and still slow loping in the exhibitions. I lost a year and he got hurt but he is fixed and sound as ever now. :)

You two make it look so easy! I wish I was brave enough to do that. I have always thought that barrel racing was so easy, but man, it's tuff and I am too much of a scardy cat to go that fast. Awesome run!!!

That was fun to watch, thanks for posting it! Moon is just fast and beautiful and sounds like he has a great personality to match!

We are going to have a barrel pattern at our family playday this summer....but I swear I am just jogging My Boy through the pattern, LOL! He actually has a good turn but I am just terrified to gallop the old man through the course!

Oh you look good out there! I love the description of a quiet horse who turns it on and shocks the railbirds.

Love it! You make me want to try it.... oh wait... dont have a horse. Dammit!

Have FUUUNNNNN!!!

Way to go! Great video! You guys looked pretty smokin' fast out there...

Makes me want to try! Rusty would be happy to do the barrels at a walk. lol.

Maybe my next horse will be a bit speedier! :-)

Oh man, you two looked awesome out there! Thanks for posting that video! I loved watching it.
Barrel racing looks like such a thrill.
And what a fun way for you and Moon to grab a high(and 3rd place! whoohooo) on a hot lazy summer afternoon.

I can't ever see me doing it and I'm sure I'd make a fool of myself and all those barrel racer show-offs would scar my thin skin with their snickerings.
I'm pleased that you and Moon showed them your 'big stick' though! hehe
Maybe the saying should be "Walk softly and ride a fast horse!"

Yep-Twinville-that's a good motto to live by. Another old saying goes-You can ride a fast horse slow but you cannot ride a slow horse fast! Heehee
