More of the same...

This face makes me smile...

I have to post lots of pictures of Red Dog because he is actually Chris' dog and I know he misses him. Last summer, I noticed RD was getting a little heavy and asked Chris if I could take him to the ranch for a couple of months. We didn't tell RD it was "fat camp". He has followed me religiously every step since then. It hasn't done much for his weight but he is very happy as a "ranch" dog. He is a very hard worker and pays great attention to detail.

This face also makes me smile...

Megan does the driving when we head to mom's and to our ranch. She is old enough to have her permit(we are just having a little problem passing the driver's test). I don't know why she gets so nervous when she is testing because she knows the information, but she does and therefore is stuck driving the back roads.

Today I tackled more trees(I think I forgot to mention that there are about 100). Megan tackled grooming horses. She got to spend time with her favorite little black mare. My mechanic friend came out and worked on the lawn mowers for us. I can understand the batteries going dead, but how the hell does all of the other stuff happen when they are just sitting there for 6 months? Well, that stuff is over my head, so that is why I have Jimmy come help.

Chris is in Las Vegas-I am soooo wishing I was there with him. Sounds like he is having fun. He didn't know this when he headed out there but one of his partners is there too. So they got together and golfed this morning. He wanted me to come out too so we could have a little adult time, but I just can't swing the time away right now. And getting tickets on short notice is $$$$$. Hopefully, we get to go out there in June when we go to Colorado for a couple of weeks. None of the kids have been yet and even though they are switching back to more of the old style Vegas there is a lot of fun things for them to do and see.

Rode my gelding, Moon again tonight. I just stayed in the pasture though. He needs lots of circles, moving those shoulders in and out. Since he is being so sticky about it, almost everything is at the trot. Moon is a fantastically athletic horse, but he is a cheater. He likes to get strung out and lose his impulsion. When the hind quarters disengage on a barrel horse you can count on the shoulders dropping in their turns and then you start hitting barrels. It takes a lot of kicking and pushing him into the bridle to get him engaging his hindquarters. After lending him out last summer, he learned to drop his shoulders in the turns and is wanting to flip his hindquarters out. Bad,Bad,Bad!!! I have to stay on him though to get worked through this. I found a barrel racing at the end of April and want to have him ready to go. I stay more focused on my training if I have events I am getting ready for.

And there you have more of the same...

Heavens, that girl of yours is so pretty! Do you not just look at her and go "wow" ?
Had to laugh about Moon. My grey Monte has been doing EXACTLY that running barrels lately. Out of nowhere he's started carving the last barrel and slamming me into it. I do not appreciate that...
I'll be working on that same as you :)

I know the barrel horses need to have the same kind of impulsion as the pleasure horses but rarely see barrel racers here who have a clue. So I see lots of strung out horses and my guess is times not what they could be.

She is a beauty! Love Red Dog, he is watching something! Great job on having a barrel horse that doesn't need a valium. Kiddos to you!

I love it when you publish pics of Red Dog. Those Heelers (Hellers? hehe) are absolutely the best. I'd love another at some point. Right now though, Jo The Wonder Nanny Dog reigns supreme.

Ya know, I dont think I have ever run barrels. It sure LOOKS like a blast. Have to try it out some year! Looking forward to hearing how you do at the event the end of this month!
