Limbo

Weeeellllll.....

Just as I was loading horses to leave for Arizona, I learned that it had poured rain in my neighborhood and the road into the house was so muddy that I would most likely not be able to get the big rig to the house, much less into the yard. (heavy sigh)....Sooooo....

I opted to wait a few days before heading out. It might have been a different story if I was hauling my well-traveled geldings. I could have just parked down the road and led the horses to the property, but I did not relish the thought of unloading a bunch of greenies in the dark and attempting to trek 3/4ths of a mile in the mud with them.

Not to sound 'grinchy' but now Christmas is messing with my schedule. Timing is everything you know. I'll wait until the day after Christmas to head down. No matter how I do things, I'll have to have someone to do chores for me for a day or two, on one end or the other and I don't want to interfere with anyone else's holiday time with their families, so now it's just a waiting game for me.

Since I didn't plan on being here, we don't have a single Christmas decoration up, so it doesn't feel particularly Christmas-y around our house. I did find a cool gift for my husband at the NFR (buying for him is not easy)...and I received my gift before we left for the NFR...

A new Dodge, one-ton, dually, mega-cab.

What a guy huh?

I'm anxious to see how it handles the big trailer. I know it should handle it fine, but this is our first Dodge. We have always been strictly Chevrolet people...at least when it comes to pickups. We did take it to Las Vegas and it sure drives and rides nice. :-). It is going to take a little getting used to with the trailer on though. That short box makes the turning radius of the trailer better, but I keep thinking I am going to get into the mega-cab with the nose of the trailer and I have to keep reminding myself there is plenty of room and I'm not going to smash the cab. I also have to remember to pull out just a little farther at the corners because the trailer does turn sharper and I don't want to run over any curbs...or signs. LOL.

I looked at quite a few new living quarter trailers while at the NFR as well and I just didn't see anything that I would rather have than the LQ I already own. The only thing about the new ones is they have much fancier interiors than mine, but that is of little relevance to me. Besides, if I just get on the ball, I can 'fancy up' the interior of my trailer myself. I am much more interested in the horses' comfort and I feel that my horses appreciate the roomy trailer they have vs. how cramped some of the newer trailers feel inside. The depth to which many of the wheel wells are inset on so many of them really restricts how much room horses have to move their feet around and that can often contribute to body soreness on long trips.

I guess though, since I am going to be here a few more days, I might as well get to riding, at least Moon and Frosty. I was looking at the rodeo schedule for the Grand Canyon circuit and it's just a few short weeks until the first rodeo and Moon is definitely not in running shape. I better get to work and put as many rides on him as I can in the time I have or he won't be ready. I have someone interested in Frosty when I get him to AZ, so I better start on him too. I'd be pretty happy if this person decides to buy the buckskin because she would use him for a multitude of things and yet not really expect him to be top-notch. She isn't looking for a rodeo horse, just a nice 3-4D barrel horse, gymkhana horse and a horse to practice rope on. That would be right up Frosty's alley and finally given the opportunity to be someone's main mount...who knows how good he might get. :-)

Phooey on the weather! Well, you DO have a nice, new truck and you are probably right on the timing of things. I will keep my fingers cross fro Frosty.

I love the header picture, very nice! Sory you are unable to get on the road as planned, but it sounds like you got it covered. Nice truck too!

It is like you said "What a man." I am sure he would say the same about you only woman. But you know what they say "Happy wife, happy life."

It might have rained, but it only lasted a day. Typical huh? Still I don't blame ya for staying put. Slick mud is no place for a shiny new truck, let alone the risk of getting stuck in it.

You are going to LOVE the way that truck pulls your trailer. We have one just like it (different color) and it tows stuff better than any truck we own. (and we own a bunch) When towing with it we make good use to the "Tow/haul" button and those engine brakes when going down hills. The only problem with our is that it is lifted just enough that we can't use it to pull our horse trailer. I have taken out two corners of the bed with that trailer. Now we use the flat bed. But eventually we will put a flat bed on our new one, cuz dang that sucker can pull anything and you hardly know it is there. We like it so much we are seriously considering trading in one of our older pick ups on another new one.

One thing I find ironic is that you and TC always seem to be traveling the same roads at the same time in opposite directions. He is leaving for Casper the same day. If you see a silver flatbed dodge (older model) pulling a flatbed trailer with a bus on it, that will be him.

Have a Merry Christmas and please be safe on your trip.
