Something Besides Horses

Still haven't gotten around to getting shoes put on any of my crew yet. First my farrier was out of town, then I was supposed to be out of town...

Since the weather on the o.t.h.e.r. side of the state seems to be uncooperative....Flooding down on the flats and ice and snow up in the mountains...I didn't head back to SD this week. Maybe in a few more days things will calm down and I can make the drive. 'Til then...The ponies get a little more time off...

And I have been busy with non-horsie projects.

Tore down all of my portable panel pens, scraped the mud and muck out, drug them smooth and reset up pens...Adding 3 more in anticipation of having my girls here.

Been cleaning the weeds out of my garden area. What a mess. I think I am actually going to have to spray it with a chemical weed-killer this fall to try to get some of that creeping crud from coming back...cause as fast as I can pull a section...new sprouts are coming in. Grrr!!

F.i.n.a.l.l.y. got around to finishing up the texturing job on the ceiling repair we had done a couple of summers ago, got that primed and painted.

Started taping and texturing my 'woman-cave'...which is actually the attached garage. We don't park vehicles in it (most of them wouldn't fit anyway), so I'm finishing out the sheetrock and turning it into my sewing/craft room. Got all of my crap out there anyway...might as well just set up shop there so I'm not constantly dragging things out and then having to put it away so it's not cluttering up the house.

And best of all...

I got started on my husband's 'man-cave'...

For 2 years now I have struggled to come up with a feasible floorplan for the enclosed room in my hubby's shop. What can I say...Sometimes I am immediately inspired...and sometimes I struggle. Finally I told him, I just have to get some paint on the walls and it will come to me...

And it did. We kept waffling back and forth whether to turn it into a bar room or a lounging room. It's kind of too big to validate either idea individually...I hate to waste space, but I cannot abide a cramped, cluttered feel either. ;-) But I got it figured out...It is going to be a little bit of both, I just had to scale my ideas down and there will even be room left for a couple of display cases so my hubby can set up a couple of his collections. He's got the neatest stuff...so 'decorating' it isn't going to be a problem. LOL.

I know my hubby has been wanting to get something done with this space...But bless his heart, he hasn't said a whole lot about it. Just let me do MY thing. Now that I am working on it, he is very excited. So I will have to stay focused on getting this little project finished before resuming normal equine activities. My dear husband has waited long enough.

Sounds like you've been busy! While it is nice to be doing horse stuff all the time, it is kind of fun to get some other projects rolling as well. We'll need to see the finished pictures of your renos/decorating!!

I wish my house was bigger for my OH to have his own man cave, but he does fine with just having the shop and garage. Decorating is fun, picking out paint colors, new flooring... love it. Can't wait to see the finished product!!

Oh, and non toxic weedkiller that is supposed to work as good as the nasty stuff...
1 gallon vinegar, 1 cup table salt, 1 tblsp dishwashing liquid.
