The Bad Thing About Leaving Home...

Is that when you come home...there's a ton of work to do.

My Honey and I spent the last couple of days whipping out the yard work, burning the last of the weeds and cleaning up the odds and ends of stuff laying around. It's not completely done...but the majority of it is.

It's back to riding for me. Amazing how quickly the ponies lose their condition. Of course, several days on grass and they balloon up like you wouldn't believe.

These two were glad to change places with the other bunch...

Beretta is finally letting go of the last of her winter hair...

Not dapples...pieces of winter hair that haven't let go yet...
LOL...She looks like a patchwork quilt. She's all slick and shiny underneath and then those ridiculous chunks of hair sticking out.

She's doing pretty good though. Her knee is back to normal, all of the bite marks have haired over and she has only been a little off in that hind leg. It's more noticeable when she is tired. By the afternoon, she is ready to come back in and take a nice long nap. She is growing again and I think it bothers her more then.

Spooks won't admit it, but I think he likes her. He often stands watch over her when she is napping, like a mare with a foal. Thankfully he is not stupid about it. I can separate them without a fuss. It sure is nice having a nice elder for Beretta to hang out with though. I told my mom, if I am going to continue to bring babies out here for handling, the black horse would have to stay, so I had someone to show them how to be nice, responsible youngsters. Lord knows, none of my other jerk geldings fit that bill. Everything else that is here is mean to the core. ;-)

Glad you're back safe!

Look at that beautiful grass. Irrigated? Amazing :)

Hope you had a good time in Vegas.
Spook is a handsome boy, and I agree about having a good mannered horse as a role model for youngsters. The tend to be copy-cats.

Funder-Irrigated? Yes. But I haven't even turned on the water yet. I was needing to and then we got all of that moisture last week. I suppose I will have to make the irrigation system my next project.

Cdn-Vegas was a little lackluster this trip. We ate good and wandered around a lot because the temps were beautiful, but that's about it. I bought my requisite Vegas heels because I always seem to find a 'can't live without' pair. We thought we would try something different this time and stayed at The Rio. It threw our whole vibe off and the gambling was brutal for MH. The machines weren't bad, but the roulette table had absolutely no love for him this trip. Can't win all the time but I've never seen a time when it doesn't turn around at some point. I hit pretty good on 'my' goldfish game, but I don't have the cahones MH does and only play pennies. Oh well, maybe next trip will be better. I have no doubt MH will feel the need to go back sooner rather than later and redeem his winning ways. LOL

Beautiful horses and beautiful fields- that's enough for anyone.

Maybe I could bring Yalla! up so Spooks can get some sense into her? She's queen around here and needs a good "put in her place". None of my horses will do it, not even her mama.

Hope your Vegas trip was good.

Mine look like...poop. They are shedding out alright, but patchy and my 2 appendix bred really were hit with sand colic hard and lost tone and weight fast. I really need to get a better feeding system in this sand. Looking for crappy old water tanks to use for feeding so they stop throwing their food in the sand. Keep your eyes open!

Nice to go away, but this time of year , means lots of work I agree. The horse look good .Nice the Spooks is a good supervisor for the young ones . Don't know when you are heading for "lost wages"again ,but Keep me in mind for Dec , hubby thinks we need to hit the NFR again

Sure is nice to have that gentle gelding to teach the babies manners, sure makes them nicer to deal with later.

Sure looks green there, but I bet its gorwing like crazy, here too but we cant mow yet cause it keeps raining a little every day.

@Danielle Michelle - an option I've heard of for feeding in sandy areas is to have mats where your horses eat and toss their hay on the mats.

Sorry to hear Vegas was not your friend. I hate when it goes that way. Guess maybe that's why it's been so long since I've been there. My last trip was brutual. LOL

Oh, it's so cute that Beretta found a friend! Why are those boys so grumpy all the time?!
