It Worked

I finally got the chance to put my idea of using Shooter to break the touching barrier with Beretta. It worked. Within minutes.

Shooter was only too happy to stick his nose on his little sister and snuffle her all over. At first Beretta was pretty jumpy about it, but once she realized it was another horse, she instantly turned and started chomping her gums like a good submissive baby. After that it didn't take much to use Shooter to push her into a corner...

And get my hot little hands on her...

With Shooter there she let me go so far as to brush her all over with the curry comb and wrap my arms around her neck and hug her. Ohhh...she is so soft. And do you see how thick her hair is? She is like a little puff ball.

While I was working with little Beretta, Megan and My Honey's daughter got out the riding horses and made a few laps around the arena. Meg explaining how to jump on...

And attempting the jump...
It only took a couple of tries and she had it down. I knew MH's girl was interested in horses and knows how to ride...she has ridden with Meg before. But I did not realize just how interested she has become. I invited her to come spend next summer with us and go showing and rodeoing with Meg and I. Sounds like she wants too. My poor Honey! I told him he will never have to worry where his money goes again....Bwhahahaha!!!!

That is so great that you got to touch and curry Beretta! There is nothing like that first touch. I can remember when I first was able to touch Chance, and now she just loves grooming time!
I also remember the days when I could jump on a horse like Megan! Not anymore!! These old bones can't jump that high!

I've never been able to jump on a horse like Megan...lol.. not even a ten hand pony!

Glad you got to get hands on that spectacular filly too!! She'll come around nicely ;)

That's so sweet that the horse just stands quietly with those jumping attempts. It's got to feel like having a mountain lion jump on its back minus the sharp claws. All of my horses are in the bad habit of walking off while I'm mounting. I haven't tried terribly hard to correct it, because I have good balance and can finish my mount in motion. However, if I had the strength and flexibility to mount from the ground bareback, I would definitely have to train the horses to hold still for the mount.

The only time I ever tried to jump on a horse like that was the first time I tried to get on Jaz ... and he walked off.

Pretty funny about your honey not having to ever worry again about where his money's going.

WV = nutco
Needs no definition LOL!

Standing still for mounting is definitely something I reinforce 100%. Particularly when it comes to the kids.

LOL-I even managed a swinging mount onto Moon. He used to be easy but now that he is getting so round, it's definitely more difficult...or is that my age showing?

Anon...don't forget meeeee! Heehee

Great idea to get your baby accustomed to touch. It's great to have a four legged helper!!
I'm so jealous - I have never been able to jump on my horses like that! At 5'3" I've somehow managed to always find giants to ride, until I got Tiny....now I'm just old and inflexible!

Oh boy, you're creating another horsey monster aren't you? Poor guy! Does he have a clue just what's in store for him??? Could be worse though, think boys and cars and shopping...horses are much more better!! He should thank you!! Ooooh, I would love to bury my face in that fuzzy baby. Take a big sniff for me will you? And, thanks for the wonderful Thanksgiving message. Sounds like you had a wonderful time.

Oh don't you just love that trying to get the baby's that haven't had much contact to trust you! We usually do a good job of lots of human contact with our babies from birth but we don't have the numbers of them that you do!! This summer though we kind of laxed on it a little and learned the reason why we need to do it the way we always have...I have a 7 month old that has gone down the last 2 nights after eating his pellets so we have to halter him to get him up and when the vet came out last night I literally had to drag this colt out of the pen...So SORE today LOL!! So lesson learned....Full halter breaking at a younger age is a must around here, not just a halter once or twice LOL!! This colt will let us handle him without the halter and he too is SOOO soft right now! Love it!

Well at least your honey will always know where his daughter is too!

I so wish I could mount like that. *sigh*
