He's A Changed Colt

Little Guns looks like a normal foal now...
(Cowgirl's feet are disgraceful at the moment, but I'll be fixing that this afternoon)

He has the sweetest little face...
And all of his winter hair-LOL.

I think he is going to turn dark bay like Shooter. Hopefully he gets the "glitter" factor from his daddy that Shooter and Beretta have.

No doubt about it! He's got his momma's booty going on already...
That's not to shabby a hind-end on a three week old foal that came out in the deplorable condition this little guy did. Already has his momma's inner and outer gaskin muscle. Awesome!

Cowgirl has a pretty head and if she wasn't so blubbery fat...a beautiful neck so we should be good there...
Of course daddy already put keen little heads on Shooter and Beretta, so I'm thinking he is going to be pretty consistent there.

Little Guns is a curious little dude...
He gave me a good once over with his nose while I was crouched down trying to get pictures.

His front legs are straightening...at least until he gets tired and then he still splays out a bit. His hind fetlocks have come up a lot. I'm going to trim his little tooties up this afternoon and I think that will fix a lot. He is very long in his toes for such a young guy. We'll get that taken off and I think that will relieve a lot of the stress on his tendons and make it easier for him to stand up correctly.

Looking at the amount of bone this foal has already...it won't be long before his name is going to have to be changed from Little Guns to Big Guns. If my brother doesn't like him...I'll take him. I'm in love!!

He sure is looking good!! I love mom too!

You were asking for some info on Aussies, here is my personal opinion on them. I love them and would get more in the future.
Although, I would make sure I purchased my next Aussie through a reputable dog breeder. Bailey actually is 3/4 Aussie 1/4 Border Collie, but he looks purebred Aussie, so I just call him an Aussie. Sadie is purebred, purchased through a backyard breeder, won't ever do that again. Sadie's dad had to be locked up in the garage, and he seemed aggressive. Sadie is socially anxious, insecure with dog to dog aggression. I should have known better than to buy from a backyard breeder, especially after seeing the dad.
I would tell your friend to make sure he goes to a reputable Aussie breeder. I believe Aussies are really good with kids (mine love kids) and it takes awhile to get used to the herding (humans, cats, goats, horses or should I say, anything that moves!) Bailey is very mouthy, I have never been able to get him to stop. He will take your hand in his mouth or as he is walking beside you he will bite your leg. But it is not aggressive, it is in playfulness. I would also suggest to your friend that they get on the Australian Shepherd Club of America website, they have more Aussie info there.
Another thing I heard is the blue merle is a genetic defect, but is obviously recognized in the breed color standard, but some of them have mental issues. I think Sadie just got her mental issues from her dad. Because when she is really sweet, she is REALLY sweet.
Like I said, I would definitely get another Aussie, we really love the no tail, friendliness, loyal, hardworking, beautiful, kind, energetic, dogs they are. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to email me!! I love to talk about my Aussie's!! Can you tell? LOL!

Sorry this has gotten so long!

Little Guns is sure getting cuter by the day! Did you shave his face or is he shedding out on the sides so crazy like!

Thanks for the info Paint Girl. I'll be sure to pass that along.

FV-That is him shedding out. Most babies do around the 1st month, but it is particularly noticeable since the rest of him is covered in thick, winter hair. I always wondered if late babies had any problems growing enough hair for winter, guess we now know they hair up just like older ones.

I was wondering about late foals & winter coats too. One less thing to be curious about lol
That little guy doesn't even look like the same foal from a few weeks back - amazing!
And his momma sure has a nice motor. Maybe you should 'acquire' him from your brother - with rear wheel drive like that he'd make a nice barrel horse ;)

That's the hope Cdn-LOL. Well, at least my hope. I am sure my brother is hoping he grows up and becomes a rope horse.

Cowgirl is such a nice mare. She was a phenominal using horse in her own right and crossing her bloodlines on the new stallion, Pistol is the nick we have been anticipating. It is going to be so exciting to watch LG develop.
