Cleaning draws...
Megan holding the wing...Bunching the herd...Pushing 'em into the corral...
Unfortunately, there are no branding pictures this year. After everything was gathered, Megan and I had to count cows as they were sorted...and you do NOT mess up on the count! Once the branding commenced, Megan was busy wrestling and I graduated to brander this year. I wonder if that is a sign of my age?

OH what fun!! What amazing shots!! That first picture is so far away!! The land there is awesome!! And I love the sky in that last picture!! It looks like you guys had a fun day. And you just now are graduating to a brander.....I am never going to be able to do it....sigh....
Was this at a neigbour's or someone in your family?
Which reminds me, any more 'mystery illness' going on with the cattle and deer?
Great pictures! Looks like perfect weather for the work. How do you track the cow count tally?
OMG those pictures are AWESOME!!! South Dakota must be beautiful, I've never been there....Love the post, and the pictures :)
I would love to do this someday! It looks like so much fun! Beautiful pictures!
That looks like a fun time! The skies and scenery beautiful! I've heard it is gorgeous....maybe someday I'll get to visit your state!

Count me in too. I think I'd just like to ride along, though.
Too bad theres nothing like that around here I would love to do that.
Sigh. I love those wide open spaces. I feel like I can breathe in that nice, clean air just by looking at the pictures.
Awww, sure you will Andrea. It's easy. Hot iron, apply firmly, count to five...when you see pink, it's good.
Cdn-It was at mom's place. She kept the same guys her and my step-dad have been running share cattle with for the last 13 years.
PG-They set up a pen system so they can sort the calves one direction into a pen and the cows down an alley. As the cows go down the alley, they get sprayed with liquid Ivomec and out the gate. You just count them as they go out the gate. Because it can be sporatic, I use my fingers to hold my place and every 10, Megan and I would hollar out(20, 50, 100) and start over on the fingers. It sounds dumb, but there is no way to start over if you lose your place or forget your count, so you do have to keep concentrating...and they will still ask you if you are sure you got a good count.;)
Girl I hear ya about not losing count! I try to never get that job! It's not like you can say, let's start over! LOL!
Great pics! I know that is what I find hard to do, is work and take pics or videos! You know what we need to invent something that could do that, just think of the money we could make!
Oh Gosh! That looks like fun!
Fun but hard work! I have helped out with one of those before! Were they doing any castrating too? We did - they actually sent me home with some skinned and "ready for the fryer" rocky mountain oysters - which I greatly enjoyed!
Did you get a little sunburn too? Looks like you had a nice day.
No "oysters" Stephanie-most people band around here now. Darn the luck, cause I sure do like a good mountain oyster feed.;)
LOL-and no sunburn, I got some color to me now so won't burn anymore. It was a perfect day weather wise.Just warm enough to be comfortable.
I participated in a round up once at a ranch down in southern ohio. It was such a blast. A looooong day with lots of running through woods to catch strays (we were greenies, what can I say?) but it was such fun.
