Life Lessons

Soooo...When I took pictures of Shooter the other day, I noticed that his toesies are getting a tad long again, so with the beautiful weather we have been graced with for TWO whole days, I asked Meg to bring him out for me to trim him up...
He wasn't as sweet about it this time as he was last time, but he wasn't aweful. Just being a normal colt. I trimmed his fronts and let it go at that. I'll get the hinds in the next day or so. We trimmed him a little bridle path too. I suppose on a colt, technically it's a halter path, right?

Meg spent a little time leading him around the yard...

But he started to get a little ornery, so I took over. He was really just unsure about some of the unfamiliar sights and ground. He was more worried about stepping across the muddy berm from where they put the new water line in than all the hoses and such laying around(OMG, I have so much stuff to clean up, AGAIN!!)...

But we safely made it over and it looks like a whole new world to him...

After a long day outside, enjoying the warmth and getting a bead on projects that need done, this is how tired everyone is...
I don't know what it is about this kid that makes her animals love her so, but every animal that she claims is beyond devoted to her.

Hmmm, remind me to keep her away from my colt. He's mine...all mine...muahahaha!!

I really think Shooter is going to be quite the horse. I just can't believe how big he is getting. Cute pic of Meg at the end...I love it when cats do that, and they all don't, and not with everyone. She definitely has a way with the animals! ;)

Hi there,
What a nice colt! Yes they getting a little spunky, we have a yearling. We also have a daughter with the same midas touch when it comes to her animals....something special for sure. Looks like it was a productive day for you all!

Hey, great pics! He really is getting big! How tall are his sire and dam?

I noticed on the photos that it looks like he has a really low cowlick between his eyes. An old cowboy I knew swore that the lower the cowlick sits between a horses eyes, the quieter they are. I've found that to be pretty true in general (with the exception proving the rule).

Oh my goodness, I should take a picture of our yearling with me stading next to her so you can see how incredibly huge Scooter is!! He is such a huge handsome boy!! She sounds like he is going to be a really nice boy. And that daughter or yours has a wonderful gift. I love seeing pictures of her with her animals.

Wow-you guys really think he is big for his age? He's 9 months old as of the 10th of March. I don't have anything to compare him too. I was a little surprised at how big he looked in comparison to Meg but she's only 5'2". I'm kinda leaning into him in both of my pictures, so thought that might make a difference. Hmmm? Well, he isn't getting fed anything special-lots of prairie grass/alfalfa mix hay and 1/2 can of SafeChoice(once a day).

Horse Crazed-momma is exactly 15H, daddy is 15-15.1H. I sure as heck hope he doesn't exceed that by much.
I believe in the whorl thing too. Every horse I have ever had with a low whorl is very laid back.

I used to be that way when I was younger too - all the animals on our place would follow me around like I had a regular animal trailer attached to me!

The cats would even try to follow me when i went on trail rides with the horses.

I think its a good sign!
