How Does Your Garden Grow?

But first...this is how we rolled into town...

I had a guy ask me if I was moving? I said Nope...Garage Saling...he gave me the funniest look...
My house now looks like a tornado went through it. Like I needed more stuff-LOL. But the sales were good this last weekend and I got a great deal on some new beds and a new dryer. I just can't resist a good deal.

Got home to my "pot" garden gone crazy...
Hahaha...made you think about it didn't I? I didn't want to tear up any of the grass, so I planted my garden in empty cattle lick tubs. Works great! The cucumber plants above only had 3 little leaves on them when I left just one short week ago.

The tomato plants look like trees...
And hey, they even have tomatoes on them...
The crooked neck squash plants have humongous leaves...
And little baby squash hiding under them...
I have to say, I have never had much of a green thumb, but the old horse manure that I used for potting soil has certainly changed that for me. I can't wait to get to start eating some of this fresh produce.

Black containers are the best! And so is composted horse manure! Nice job! Looks better than what we have going here at our place.

When first I read "Pot Garden" guess what I thought? LOL. Your garden looks great. I thought of doing this myself next summer and wondered if anyone had any luck in potting their veggies.

Liz-Does it make a difference if they are black? Guess I never thought about that. I just used the cattle lick tubs because they were lighter than the horse lick tubs, which are tan and blue.

Treasia-I am amazed. My sister-in-law did the same thing with her plants, but they aren't doing as well. But I used the old manure and she used dirt. I also followed my mom's directions and drilled little holes 1/2 way down the side, all the way around them for water to drain out, so they wouldn't drown if we got heavy rain. I don't think she did that either.
I love the tub idea, because I can move them around if I need to.

Great idea! A portable pot garden! ;)
I wish I could have a garden. It would be nice to eat some fresh vegetables that I grew myself.

I think peppers and tomatoes particularly like the warmth of the black barrels. Some herbs do, too. Other veggies might not like it, but I am guessing it really isn’t that big of a factor as long as drainage is good and they aren't constantly having “wet feet.”

My husband used horse manure for our garden this year, well he applied it last fall, and it is doing great! Looks like some fine things growing there.
