Just Another Weekend...

It was a beautiful May weekend...oh wait...it's the end of June. It is hard to remember because the weather has been so cool and everything is still so green(Sorry to rub it in to those of you who are baking and/or dry as a bone).
What I really wanted to do was ride all day on Saturday. But instead this is what my mom had in mind...
Damn!
Oh well! Right now, what momma wants...momma gets! She has waited long enough to get to finish this. She started 2 years ago, but the paint smell bothered my step-dad-so it was left indefinitely. I think it bothers her that it had to be left unfinished, but it bothers her even more that now it can be finished...
It looks nice. I like the color. Couldn't help but gaze off toward the corral a few times though. Most of those ponies have been on hold for a few years too-a few more days won't hurt.
I tried to get some nice profile pictures of Frosty. Bad spot to do it in-too much junk in the background and the sun had set a little to far to really catch the light...
I really liked his pose in this one. But that darn paint pony of Megan's wandered too close and I caught his shadow...
I can't help but hope that Shooter will grow up to look like this. Frosty is just a pretty, pretty horse. Conformationally he is just so correct. I just wished his brain would mature. It isn't really that he is dumb-it's just that his retention is not as good as I would like it to be. But he is super gentle and very honest-so the rest will come with time.

His foot is healing really well. It is completely healed inside and we are just waiting for the hide and hair to finish growing back together. I doubt there will even be much of a scar...

And the cactus are blooming...
Wished I had been paying attention, because I love cactus jelly and I bet I could have convinced mom to make me a couple of jars if I would have brought her a bucket of the buds before they bloomed.

BTW-Thank you everyone for the super nice compliments on little Shooter. He definitely knows he is special. I really like this one colt a year thing. I tried to upload a video of him tonight, but 30 minutes into it-I pushed the cancel button. I'm tired and want to got to bed. Can anyone tell me if uploading it to YouTube is quicker than to Blogger?

What part of the cactus is cactus jelly made from?

Frosty's wound looks like it is healing well. He is such a lovely color!

I have only used Blogger video to upload. I find that if a video is two minutes or less, it loads pretty quickly, but anything longer can take a while. I thought I saw somewhere that you had to embed a youtube video by changing the html code (uh, sorry I just spoke a foreign language there, I had no idea what I just said! ;)

Well YouTube videos upload pretty fast, as in about five minutes for a 3 minute video - or something like that, if you have a DSL connection.

Beautiful paint job! I love painting - the improvement is so dramatic. Bang for your labor buck.

And beautiful Frosty! What a topline.

Pony Girl-The jelly is made from the flower bud. When it starts forming it is pulpy. My brother and I used to eat them. Ugh-we ate a lot of strange stuff-my father was big into the indian/survival stuff and was always showing us what was edible or NOT. I don't mess with mushrooms-can't ever remember which ones are for fun, for food or for a very painful death.

I did the video on Megan's digital camera(that thing has some cool options) but it was only 47 seconds long-I kind of figured something wasn't right when it was taking so long. I wondered if it was because it was off of a camera rather than a regular video camera.
I have to go to Pierre today. It has a Wal-Mart. I am going to see if I can find a USB cable so I can use the video camera instead.
My other thought was if I downloaded it to my computer first and then to blogger. It seems that pictures download to blogger faster if they are off of the computer rather than straight from the camera.
Thanks for the info PG & FL.

Ya for getting it done for momma! Looks great!
Glad his foot is healing!
I only use Blogger, I download the pics to my computer first and then upload, seems to work better that way. I have never done a video! Good luck!

Wow, Frosty's foot looks terrific! We should be getting our house repainted this year as well, but oh well!

Hey, you reminded me of the painting job I started a year ago. I guess I'll finish it today..... maybe. I too have ponies to ride!
Glad Frosty's foot is healing. My Buddy got hung up on the ranch a few years back and had a similar wound, it took 6 months to completely heal and now he also has some hoof imbalance issues. Good luck with Frosty. Beautiful horse by the way.

Your mom is not alone in having a half-painted house. I quit my job several years ago specifically so that I could get some work done around the house. My parents bought us the house under the agreement that we would maintain it, but that was almost impossible with both of us working two jobs at the time. I remodeled a bathroom, painted a bedroom, repainted all the kitchen and bathroom cabinets, scraped off all the trim and painted half of it over the summer and then I had to return to work because we were running out of money. That trim stayed naked for four years and there are still some spots that are waiting for us to buy another can of paint.

I had to go and talk about the cool weather...Today it got hot and muggy. Poor Woofer was soaked in sweat-the fans in the stalls aren't enough to circulate the air so we tore down her "protective" wall and I hung the misters. Hopefully that will help. Can't have my old girl in discomfort.

I am amazed at how fast Frosty's foot is healing. I know that it will take a few months for it to be completely healed but getting the cut itself healed and the skin back over it is always the major battle. Luckily there has been no proud flesh. Also luckily there was no damage to the hoof wall itself, so he shouldn't have any hoof wall disfigurement.
