...And Still No Foal

Woofer is killing me...still no closer to foaling than she was several days ago. I know older mares have a longer gestation, but come-on, we are now 11 days over her initial due date...
And I had to take her off grass except for a few hours a day-she is getting HUGE.

But the work kept on getting done. Remember the raggity edge around the house?

Got some of it finished...

Went to the ranch to mow and grandmother's tulips are everywhere. They are popping up in places we never knew they were. Going to have to put little flags out so when they die back, we can transplant them this fall.

The boys enjoyed the freshly manicured lawns. They are such handsome boys...

Chris got here, with his "trailer of toys". We promply went and picked up his new riding lawn mower.

My brother and I got to looking at the amount of grass we mowed off and felt rather bad. Both of us have lived in places with horses where we would have been estatic if we had this much grass for them.
But this is why we do it...

Sorry Mikey-I know you are kind to those rattle snakes, but not me. I don't mind snakes. But once I have determined they have rattles, they are toast. This guy was right by the hay bale that my brother is feeding off of. My brother is not so discriminating. He is terrified of snakes. I couldn't resist chasing him around a little with the corpse-hehehe. Nothing like a little family bonding-LOL.

And then it was time for Megan's 8th grade graduation.

She will be mad when she sees I have posted this picture. Look at those duck feet...I told her to put her feet together, so she did-LOL-the heels.

Gee, we haven't done a family photo in ages.

from L-R;Cheyenne,Billy,Gina(my brother and his family),Megan,LaTonne,Beverly(my mom),Mary Jane and Kenny(they are Megan's paternal grandparents).

It was a beautiful day, so we threw a little BBQ.

And let me tell you, the shrimp boil that Chris bestowed on us was lip-smacking good...

Hoping Woofer pops soon to end the stress and anticipation! Sounds like you all had a blast there, and HUGE congrats to Megan! Just wait-- hehehe--- its time for HIGH SCHOOL now!

I was going to ask if we had a foal yet! Don't they say to add some many days to there due date when the mare reaches a certain age? And of course for the life of me I can not remember the age or the number!!! LOL!
You go on the snake, he would have been dead here too! Of course I take every opportunity to get back or one up on hubby, so I would tease him with it!
House looks great! Your supervisors look they had a great spot to observe everything!
Way to go Meghan! High school next year! WOO HOO!

Thanks Flying Lily.

Mrs Mom-I don't know why we do it. Ummm, my guess is that Mikey is just onery-LOL. Me, I have memories of my brothers using me as a practice roping steer-just my way of getting a little back-LMAO.

Kris-you are correct. My mom has a schedule that adds the number of days according to the mares age. So mom said she would be due between the 18th and 20th. Add a few more days because she was not in full heat when we put her with the stud(we pasture breed with this stud) and voila...the official due date is when she decides...LOL.

I miss my black mare's foaling schedule-hand-bred June 24th-foaled May 24th, in with stud & in heat June 14th-foaled May 15th, hand-bred June 10th-foaled May 10th. Now that is reliability. But you darn sure needed to know what her due date was-because she never showed a sign-just laid down and had a colt-LOL.

Glad to see you posted again- too bad no horse. We are waiting on the donkeys -but they aren't allowed until we get the stall sides done- we don't want any escapees.
CONGRATS TO MEGHAN!!
Good luck with high school! :)

Hi,I found your site through swamp suburbia. I like looking in on country folks in different parts of the country. It looks pretty there. We just had a rattler story too. My adult son killed one that was striking at on of our cats. He brought it in to scare me and drip blood all over the house, but when he went to skin it out to make a hat band, he wasn't careful with the head and the fangs whipped into his hand and then he got a splitting headache and a swollen hand. He was a bit embarrassed.
