My mare has Doc O'Lena and Gay Bar King top and bottom, and she is noisy, noisy, noisy at a show...except in the arena, the warmup area, the gate area, and the barn. What gives with that?Joyce Reynolds-Wardnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550515326326288148.post-6707813902206377182014-10-23T18:29:49.672-06:002014-10-23T18:29:49.672-06:00Those darn genetics! Every horse grows differently like people and you've really got to feel it out. What is the point in starting a horse too young, running them, and retiring them at like 10... What's the point in that? I feel the exact same way and I think that's why so many barrel horses get super sour at the gate, have tons of leg issues and other health issues. I won't buy a horse that has been run or done a lot of patterning before 4. I like starting mine late. He seems an interesting fellow. <br />I'm with you on starting the colts a little older, especially after getting Kai this year and starting him as a 4 yr old- huge difference from putting the first rides on a 2 or 3 yr old! Grrr! So glad to hear that it's likely to change as he matures. It is nice that you can go back to the breeder for a little insight. I am so happy to hear your views on running horses at an appropriate age. Seems like so many disciplines are all about pushing them to their limits when they're not ready - physically or mentally. Sounds like overall you're having fun!!C-ingspotshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17744931697050670013noreply@blogger.com
