He's gotten a clean bill from the vet/chiro, the dentist and the farrier. For whatever reason, when I pick up on Moon to the left, his first instinct is to resist and bow into pressure. Once he gives, he's fine and can and will hold a frame going that direction.

By switching directions, I will have the chance to get him into the correct frame before he takes off running for what will now be his first barrel and can hold him in the correct frame so turning the barrel will be easier for him.

He's supple and light when I pick up on the right rein. No resistance at all. That means I should not have the same problem getting him into the correct position to turn his 2nd barrel like I was when he was running the other way.BrownEyed Cowgirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03610547057139295854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550515326326288148.post-16243169099447908712011-01-21T19:46:18.291-07:002011-01-21T19:46:18.291-07:00Looks nice, it seems to take forever to get them i...Looks nice, it seems to take forever to get them into shape after a winter off!Crystalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18035210092855895218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550515326326288148.post-80346800317701032522011-01-21T19:22:00.358-07:002011-01-21T19:22:00.358-07:00Working horses, I am so jealous. Are you doing that for a training technique or can you really go either way??Rising Rainbowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04239592070775412669noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550515326326288148.post-29537095226176014652011-01-21T18:42:01.233-07:002011-01-21T18:42:01.233-07:00I need to start working Casey. Of course, he's been here 6 months and that's more than long enough for him to have adjusted to the climate.

Molly is going to mostly be retired. We're currently dealing with a tendon injury and there's some question about whether or not this is the first time she's had this same injury. So, she's just going to be a pasture puff for a while, if not permanently.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550515326326288148.post-10553514309460223132011-01-21T15:05:15.473-07:002011-01-21T15:05:15.473-07:00It has been amazingly cold here. Even when the temperature is fairly decent the windchill makes it horrible (the other day, -15 but with the windchill it was -41!!)
I've gotten exactly ONE ride so far this year. Luckily a local girl has been putting rides on Applejack. He's the one that turns "mushy" easiest.
Also since we're on our own place I control the feed so no one is getting as fat as last year. :)cdncowgirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09055181472294995601noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550515326326288148.post-2538947840408964212011-01-21T11:19:13.327-07:002011-01-21T11:19:13.327-07:00oh I can't wait until spring. He is the low man on the totem pole so he can't be turned out with the majority of the horses and the round bale. Instead he's with 2 horses that are about 25yrs old, one can barely move, the other one is too scared to go near another horse. This has worked better than I thought cause their diet is managed better.... less work for me this spring! :-)Kristenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10804071875411766159noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550515326326288148.post-36033611856933035422011-01-21T09:43:03.879-07:002011-01-21T09:43:03.879-07:00Love the contrail in the last photo.Love the contrail in the last photo.Funderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06358687366401205336noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6550515326326288148.post-59469032284604319572011-01-21T07:18:44.682-07:002011-01-21T07:18:44.682-07:00Lucky woman.. playing with ponies.. *sigh*Lucky woman.. playing with ponies.. *sigh*Mrs. Momhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15269132012512166439noreply@blogger.com
